150 days to Comrades race day
With 150 days to go to #Comrades2022 race day on Sunday, 28 August, there is still hope for aspirant entrants in this year’s Down Run.
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has issued the latest entry stats with the entry tally standing at 11019. Runners from nearly 60 countries have entered so far with the United Kingdom, India and Zimbabwe leading the pack of international entrants.

Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Race Director, Rowyn James said, “While more than half of the 15,000-entry cap for the 2022 Comrades Marathon was claimed in the first day of the entry process, the entry uptake has slowed down. This means that aspirant Comrades entrants who did not enter the 2020 Comrades and therefore could not secure their entry in the first entry window period (23 to 31 March 2022), will have the chance to do so in the second entry window period (20 April to 16 May 2022).”
James added, “The CMA is still receiving calls from Comrades hopefuls to get their entry in and secure their place on the start line of this year’s Comrades. We urge runners to enter as soon as the second entry window period opens on 20 April in order to avoid the disappointment of not securing a spot.”
Entry fees for the second entry window period will be:
- South Africa : R1200.00
- Rest of Africa : R2000.00
- International : R4500.00
Entry is free to all runners who have completed the Comrades Marathon 25 times or more.
- Current ASA rules only allow for online entries and can be done via the Comrades Marathon website: comrades.com
- No hand delivered or postal entries are acceptable.
The 95th Comrades Marathon will be the 47th Down Run on Sunday, 28 August 2022, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 05h30 and ending 12 hours later at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, covering a 90,2km distance.
