CTO ROADSHOW TO REIGNITE TOURISM ECONOMY
To advance the City’s tourism recovery plans, eThekwini Municipality is hosting Community Tourism Organisation (CTO) Roadshows to reignite the tourism sector.
The most recent roadshow was the Durban Tourism Stakeholders Workshop held at the Hillcrest Valley Lodge on 13 August in partnership with the 1000 Hills CTO. It was held under the theme ‘Reintroduction of local leadership to the concept of CTO’s mandate, structure and function’.
Chairperson of the Economic Development and Planning Committee Councillor Sipho Kaunda thanked all stakeholders for promoting tourism and the hidden gems of the City.

“We need to promote these hidden gems, particularly in Hillcrest and Kloof, to increase our tourism offering. We also need to explore reviving sports tourism in the City,” he said.The 1000 Hills CTO highlighted some of the challenges they are facing as the tourism industry and provided suggestions on how the Municipality can assist in this regard.
The Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat analysis was welcomed by Durban Tourism Senior Manager Sibusiso Mngoma who gave his reassurance that the issues will be looked at.
“The private sector’s own tourism products have a critical role to play in the tourism industry. As the City, we are committed to assisting as it is vital for the economy to attract more tourists to the City,” said Mngoma.
The workshop encouraged stakeholders to take ownership of the tourism recovery plans.
