INAUGURAL BLUE ECONOMY WEEK TO SHAPE DURBAN AS A MARITIME HUB

Durban is set to become the epicentre of maritime innovation and sustainability this September as it prepares to host the inaugural Blue Economy Week, running from 24 to 28 September.

This event will highlight the City’s commitment to harnessing the potential of its Blue Economy to attract and enhance international events.
The Blue Economy Week will showcase cutting-edge technologies, innovations, and solutions derived from scientific research and indigenous knowledge.

The transformative week will also engage the community in sustainable ocean-based economic activities, reinforcing Durban’s status as a premier global tourism destination. Coinciding with World Tourism Day on 27 September, the week’s diverse activities will emphasise Durban’s attractions, including adventure activities, shopping, dining, museums, galleries, and its beautiful beaches.
Blue Economy Week will feature a dynamic lineup of events celebrating marine innovation and sustainability.

Highlights include the cultural carnival on 24 September, a film masterclass and beach activities on 25 September while on 26 September there will be a short film challenge, beach games, and the Maritime Careers Expo. World Tourism Day on 27 September will be marked by celebrations including mangrove activities and educational trails. The week will conclude with a closing ceremony on 28 September, featuring a fashion extravaganza, beach sports, and a carnival.
