The town of Amanzimtoti, Place of Sweet Waters, is said to been named by the great Zulu King Shaka after tasting the fresh water from the river flowing into the Indian Ocean.

Nature lovers can explore birdlife at the Umbogavonga Nature Reserve, cycle a nature trail at Ilanda Wilds, go bass fishing at Mnini Dam or enjoy a complete wildlife experience at Crocworld Conservation Centre.
