A SERIES OF ACTIVITIES (THE SA GOSPEL WEEK) WILL PRECEED THE SPECTACUALR 15TH CROWN GOSPEL AWARDS CELEBRATION

ACTIVITY 1: The World Gospel PowerHouse, producers of the prestigious, biggest Gospel music awards in the African continent, have announced the activities dubbed “The SA Gospel Week 2022.” The Gospel week will take place from Sunday the 20th of November 2022 and culminate with the glittering, epic 15th Crowns Gospel Music Awards at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC). 

The week begins with a rare live radio and TV interview opportunities created by the WGPH for nominated artists. These activities assist artists favourably position themselves and give them confidence ahead of their campaigns for votes. Various radio, TV stations and Social Media platforms profile artists and play their music and music clips. These activities are then always complemented by a major initial event that set the tone, the biggest night of Gospel music in Africa.  

ACTIVITY 2: This year, on Sunday the 20th of November 2022, The World Gospel PowerHouse will host AYIHLOME, the prayer, word and worship (inkonzo), at the Durban Exhibition Centre, from 12h00. This event will give people a chance to reflect and Thank God for protection during Covid19, surviving the riots and the floods. Ten Gospel artists and four preachers will share the stage and the event is free to the public” said Mr. Victor Sibeko, the Crown Awards spokesperson.

ACTIVITY 3: There is no exercise better for the heart and soul than to reaching out and lifting other hearts and souls likewise. The World Gospel PowerHouse and the Crowns Music Awards are no exception to this notion of being responsible citizen. On Tuesday the 22nd of November 2022, The World Gospel PowerHouse Team and the Gospel artists will visit an orphanage in Mariannhill.

ACTIVITY 4: On Friday the 25th of November, The World Gospel PowerHouse will host IZIKO National Gospel Music Conference with all stakeholders including Artists, Producers, Managers, Creative Directors, Collecting Societies, Department of Sports Arts and Culture, etc. “This is a must attend conference where artists will be empowered on how they can recover post covid19.

We have secured speakers from all collecting societies like SAMRO, SAMPRA and Capasso who will share on royalties available to artists. The department of Sports arts and culture will talk about funding and programmes available to the industry. A seasoned entertainment lawyer will advise on legal matters e.g. reading contracts before signing on deals. Surviving in the 4IR era will also be addressed and artists will be equipped with knowledge on how to deal with digital media platforms for music distribution and sales.

Lastly, Ukhozi FM will present on how they select music for their airplay. The conference is free to up and coming and seasoned artists and will take place at the Exhibition centre. This is free to the public”, says Zanele Mbokazi the Executive Producer of the Crowns Gospel Music Awards.

The nominees in the 29 categories were announced a few weeks ago and 5 of these will be voted for by the public. Artists, families, friends, communities, congregations are encouraged to vote for their favourite artists.  

The two most contested categories are the Best Gospel Song with the following nominees: Khaya Mthethwa is also the lead singer of The Jesus Collective group nominated for the best Gospel song (Kuyenzeka) and will be competing with Ncebekazi Msomi (Ukufezwa kwamadinga), Pastor Lungi Ndala (Ebenezer), Londiwe Nxumalo (Ngenzelwe Isimanga) and Sindi Ntombela (Kunomehluko).

Best Gospel Artist:

They all need the public votes for them to win this category. To vote, you SMS the code (crown… to 34069). This is the biggest category of the night and the most contested.
