CITY REVIVES COMMUNITY TOURISM

In efforts to sustain the tourism and hospitality sector in local communities, Durban Tourism has decided to embark on a drive to revive community tourism in order to get communities involved as we forge ahead with bigger action plans towards the tourism recovery journey of Durban-KZN.

Durban Tourism is currently executing Community Tourism Organization (CTO) Road shows, to reflect, empower, rebuild and re-direct collectively as govt, private sector and the community towards advancing the objectives of our eThekwini’s LED through tourism.

These roadshows are spearheaded by the leadership of eThekwini Municipality led by Economic Development and Planning Cluster Chairperson, Cllr Sipho Kaunda, Ward Councillors, Ward Committees, CTOs, KZN Provincial Government- EDTEA, various product owners, and other value chain stakeholders.

The Roadshows are meant to, among others;

  • Introduce the CTO Development programme to local structures in order to achieve a seamless execution of its plans and objectives
  • Share a legal framework, with all spheres of government, that provides for the establishment and governance of CTOs
  • Identify the roles of each sphere of government, and stakeholders alike, should play in advancing the mandate of CTOs with the support of Councilors and other community structures.

The roadshows are scheduled to visit all nine CTOs and the communities that they service in order to ensure that we reach all stakeholders to ensure that all stakeholders are consulted and they understand their roles in how best we can use the Community Tourism structures to revive and sustain the sector during these Covid-19 lockdown times and beyond.

Ends.
