An evening in the company of Elgar, Strauss and Mozart

The third concert in the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2024 Winter Season on Thursday 20 June, unusually sees the oboe in the spotlight.

The season features a spectacular roster of classical music luminaries which takes place in The Playhouse Opera every Thursday from 6 to 27 June, each World Symphony Series concert starting at 19h00.

SA based Israeli American conductor Daniel Boico appears for the third concert of the season, on 20 June with a programme that opens with Sir Edward Elgar’s much-loved Serenade for Strings. Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, regarded by many critics as among the greatest symphonies in classical music, brings the evening to a close.

27 June:

Conductor: Russian born maestro Daniel Raiskin

Soloist: South African pianist Ben Schoeman

Programme: Concert Overture by Swedish composer Elfrieda Andrėe (1841 – 1929); Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 4; Edvard Grieg’s Symphony in C minor.

There is a 10am morning rehearsal – tix R60. Coffee shop will be open.
