EThekwini Economic Activity and Outlook Survey - July 2021

EThekwini Municipality is aware of the long term negative impact of the current social unrest on the City’s economy. In anticipation of this, the City’s Economic Development Unit is developing a CRISIS RESPONSE PLAN in collaboration with local business formations. Results of the survey will be used to inform the City’s immediate CRISIS RESPONSE, while also informing the long term Economic Recovery Plan which is currently under review.

This will assist the City in understanding the impact of the current civil unrest which has led to the destruction of property, disruption of critical supply chains, the further job losses. The statistics from the EAOS can also be used by the private sector in analyses of the comparative performance of industries.

Enterprises can assess their own performance against that of their industry and size group. The (aggregated) results of the Economic Activity and Outlook Survey are published on the EDGE Portal and circulated to stakeholders via the EDGE Database.

Please note that all information is confidential and only aggregated trends are shared. No information will be shared which can link a specific response to any one firm/business.

Please contact justice.matarutse@durban.gov.za or tshegang.chipeya@durban.gov.za if you have any problems completing the survey.
